Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-With a win against the Des Moines Buccaneers Tuesday, the Waterloo Black Hawks have already begun to "Crank it Up," by moving into the USHL's final playoff position. Wednesday the team revealed that phrase as the new theme for the remainder of 2010-2011 and into the postseason.

"With less than two months remaining before the playoffs begin, it's going to be exciting," said Black Hawks President Doug Miller. "The team is playing their best hockey of the year right now. Black Hawks fans know that once a team is in the playoffs, anything can happen. We're asking the fans to "Crank it Up" too when they come to Young Arena and make it even tougher for visiting teams to play here."

Waterloo has earned at least one point in the USHL standings from ten of their last 14 games. As is the case in the NHL, two points are awarded for each USHL victory, while a team losing in overtime or a shootout receives one point. The recent run has given the Black Hawks sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 37 points, one better than the Youngstown Phantoms.

This season, the top six teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs. The best two teams from each half of the league will receive a first round playoff bye. The third and fourth seeds from Eastern and Western Conferences will host an abbreviated best-of-three series at their home rink against the sixth and fifth seeds respectively. Currently, Waterloo is six points behind Team USA and seven points from matching the Muskegon Lumberjacks, the team they would currently need to overtake in order to host a first round playoff at Young Arena.

The Black Hawks will have to "Crank it Up" even more this weekend, with three games in three days against three of the league's top clubs. Friday, Waterloo hosts the Omaha Lancers, currently second in the USHL Western Conference. Saturday and Sunday, the Hawks visit the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Green Bay Gamblers, the top two teams in the East. Saturday's contest in Cedar Rapids also kicks off a crucial stretch of six consecutive road games.

The first 1,000 fans in attendance for Friday's matchup with the Omaha Lancers will receive the next installment of iwireless Player Cards. The Hawks are also offering the Domino's Family Four Pack: four tickets, four sodas, a One-Timer game program, and a large Domino's pizza. The Black Hawks will not play another home game until Friday, March 11th against Youngstown.
