Portland Winterhawks News Release
Oliver Bjorkstrand scored 29 seconds into double overtime to give the Portland Winterhawks a 4-3 win over the Everett Silvertips Saturday in Game 2 of their second round series.
After Nic Petan won an offensive zone faceoff, Bjorkstrand collected the puck, cut across the middle and snapped a shot past Silvertips netminder Carter Hart to give the Hawks the win.
The series is now tied 1-1 with Game 3 Thursday in Portland at Veterans Memorial Coliseum at 7 p.m.
The Silvertips opened the scoring 3:12 into the game on a goal by Jake Mykitiuk for the early 1-0 lead. Portland got it back at 12:48 when Paul Bittner fed Blake Heinrich, who wired a one-timer past Hart to make it 1-1.
Portland then took their first lead of the series on a power play at 15:29 as Chase De Leo scored from a sharp angle along the goal line for a 2-1 lead Portland took into the second.
Midway through the second Everett evened it on a goal from Nikita Scherbak at 12:49 to make it 2-2. They went ahead with under a minute to go in the period when Scherbak scored on a tip-in to give Everett a 3-2 lead heading into the third.
It remained a one-goal game until 10:18 of the third when Hawks defenseman Adam Henry tucked a wraparound past Hart to even the game at 3-3. Neither team found the back of the net through the rest of regulation to set up overtime.
The first overtime saw lots of end-to-end action with 28 combined shots between the two teams, but it remained a 3-3 tie as the game went to a second overtime before Bjorkstrand ended it.
De Leo, Paul Bittner and Nic Petan had two points apiece in the win.
Adin Hill earned the win with 41 saves on 44 shots. Hart also made 41 saves on 45 Portland shots.
Portland was 1-3 on the power play and a perfect 3-3 on the penalty kill.
