Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has recalled pitcher Brian Slocum from the Buffalo Bisons. Slocum will fill the roster space left void when the Tribe placed pitcher Rafael Betancourt on the 15-day disabled list with a strain of the right latissimus dorsi muscle.
Slocum, 25, has spent the beginning of 2006 with the Herd where he was 0-0 with a 1.93ERA and one save in five relief appearances (9.1IP, 5H, 2ER, BB, 11K, .156 avg). His 11 strikeouts currently rank tied for second on the Bisons roster.
Slocum, who was the Tribe's 2nd round pick in the 2002 draft out of Villanova, was converted to relief at the end of 2005 and after the season went 2-1 with a 3.15ERA in 11 Arizona Fall League relief outings (20.0IP, 14H, 7ER, 19K, .192 avg). Slocum won a Carolina League-high 15 games at A Kinston in 2004. He will be making his debut at the Major League level wearing #54.
