Bisons on a Three Game Win Streak
January 12, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Kentucky Bisons News Release
The Kentucky Bisons ended the weekend's road games against the Aurora Force, and the Chicago Steam 2-0. They beat the Force easily, winning by 31 points 124-93. In Chicago things did not come so easily as the Bisons were put to the test in their first over-time game of the season. But again being true to the fans, and true to being "Basketball at it's Best" they won another thriller, this time on the road taking down the Chicago Steam 96-91.
Before going on the road, the ABA's 3rd ranked Nashville Broncs came into Owensboro January 8th looking to win the last of four regular season games against the Tri-state's new Pro basketball team. The Bisons were leading the series 2-1 and the previous games had been full of highlights getting area sports fans prepared for a "barn burner".
The Broncs were looking to even the series up at 2-2, but Kentucky's head coach Otis Key and the rest of the Bisons certainly saw things differently. Nashville came out strong and led most of the game with Kentucky always fighting to stay in reach of a win. In the third quarter Nashville hit six of seven 3-point shots trying to bury the Bisons but to no avail. Every time things looked to be over, Kentucky would gather itself and battle their way back into the game. The owner and CEO of Kentucky Jay Sills said " I knew our team had talent and guts, but this was a game where they willed themselves to win, a good sign of a good team."The game was decided in the last minute with Bisons trailing but coming back to win the game in what was a true Pro basketball game at it's best. Kentucky ended the game shooting 50% (43/46) over-all but struggled on 3s with only 27% (4/15) FT 14/17 a strong 82% Kentucky had 50 Reb/20 Off, Assist 17, Steals 18, and 6 blocked shots. Nashville finished shooting 56% 42/75, and 39% 3s 11/28 the offense was there but it just was not enough having only 29 rebounds.
Leaders for the Bisons were No.2 Lamar Owen 20 pts, No.12 Kenny Jones 20 pts, No.15 Mike Wells 18 pts, No.21 Boris Siakam with 18 pts, No.5 Aubrey White 17 pts.. Kentucky's record improves to 8-2 against ABA teams.
The Kentucky Bisons home games are covered by local radio announcers Rick Thompson and Bradley Payne on stations WVJS 1420-AM & 100.5-FM at game time with live "play by play". Time Warner Cable Channel 8 broadcasts the game via tape delay the same night of the games with commentary by Jerry Birge and John Worth.
Kentucky Bison's next home game is at the Owensboro SportsCenter this Thursday January 15th at 7:00 PM in re-match against the Kansas City Spartans. For more Information please visit www.KentuckyBisons.com or call 270-782-7556
