Kentucky Bisons News Release
Nashville, TN. March 23, 2009 -Sunday Night in Nashville, TN the Kentucky Bisons played like it was the last game of the season, and it was. The seven month old basketball team that calls the SportsCenter in Owensboro, KY it's home, looked to be a successful expansion to the league. Few if anyone at all (except the Bisons team and staff) ever thought this would happen. With devotion, determination, and playing basketball with true heart and soul Kentucky ended the season with a 19-3 record.
The Bisons battled their way into ABA (American Basketball Association) Championship game the same way they have all season. Overcoming the talents and experience of the #1 and #5 seeded teams, the Bisons organization would get what they had believed in all along, the big trophy. After trailing most of the game this rookie team had came back to win the championship title.
When the buzzer sounded ending the game, the team and fans had an emotional and joyous victory celebration. When everyone settled down, the commissioner of the ABA, Joe Newman began the trophy and awards ceremony. Newman thanked everyone involved with the operation, especially the host team Nashville Broncs and Owner Scott Lumley, for an outstanding job a in making the finals possible. Newman then announced the tournament's Most Valuable Player as the Bison's starting point guard Mike "Lil Bitty" James who accepted the league's championship cup. Next Newman made a series of surprising announcements that shocked and excited everyone there. The Kentucky Bisons made a sweep of the awards. Kentucky's Head Coach, Otis Key won "Coach of the Year", the team's owner Jay Sills was named "Executive of the Year", and the Kentucky Bisons were voted "Franchise of the Year".
