Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the second game of a four-game home-and-home series at Frontier Field (7:05 p.m.). After tonight's game, the series will shift to Dunn Tire Park on Monday and Tuesday. On the mound tonight for Buffalo will be LHP Jeremy Sowers. The southpaw pitched into the eighth inning on Tuesday against in Scranton/WB but fell in defeat. The Red Wings will counter with LHP Jason Miller.
VS. THE WINGS: After last night's victory, the Bisons are 3-2 against Rochester this season. The teams split a four-game home-and-home series, May 11-14. Buffalo is 3-0 at Frontier Field this year.
NORTHERN LEADERS: The Bisons have been in first place in the IL North division since May 5 (58 consecutive days). The Herd is currently 3-1 in a seven-game stretch against the Yankees and the Red Wings. Buffalo's three-game lead in the division is the highest it has been since it reached a season-high 3.5 games on June 7.
SWEET AND SOWERS: LHP Jeremy Sowers is coming off an extremely solid outing in Scranton/WB. Though he fell to 0-2, the southpaw allowed just one run through the first six innings. Sowers also worked into the eighth inning for the first time this year. (7.1IP, 3ER, 2K). In 2006, Sowers went 9-1 with a 1.39ERA and was named the Bisons Most Valuable Pitcher.
ALL-STAR SLUGGER: Last night, Ryan Mulhern was 2-2 with his 12th home run of the season. He also had a sac fly for his team-leading 47RBI. With three consecutive multi-hit efforts, Mulhern has his season average up to .317, which is good for 7th in the International League. The first baseman is also 4th in the IL with a .546 slugging percentage.
BULLY FOR THE PEN: The Bisons bullpen has been downright filthy of late. The pen has worked 12.1 scoreless innings on this roadtrip. In the last 11 games, the bullpen has posted a 0.26ERA with only 21 hits allowed in 35.0 innings (3R, 1ER, 9BB, 30K). RHP Matt Miller (12 games), LHP Juan Lara (8 games), RHP Mike Koplove (5 games) and RHP Jensen Lewis (5 games) all have impressive scoreless outing streaks.
THRUWAY SERIES: With last night's win, the Bisons (6-4) pulled even with the Red Wings (5-3) for first place in the 2007 Thruway Cup Series. Both teams are three games up on third-place Syracuse (2-6).
