Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the third game of a four-game series from Frontier Field (1:35 p.m.). The series is even at a game apiece after the Bisons won 4-3 on Friday night and the Red Wings collected a 3-2 victory last night. The Herd is 3-2 on their current seven-game roadtrip that began with a 2-1 series win in Syracuse. On the mound today for Buffalo will be RHP Matt Ginter. The righty allowed two runs in four innings of a no-decision on Monday in Syracuse. Rochester will counter with RHP Philip Humber.

ARMS RACE: The Bisons are off to a 6-3 start in May due in large part to their work on the mound. The pitching staff has posted a 2.78ERA in the first nine games and has allowed just three homeruns in 77.2 innings of work. The starters have been especially tough with a 2.42ERA and only 46 hits allowed in 48.1 innings of work. On the season, Buffalo's 3.72 team ERA is the 7th lowest in the International League.

STREAKIN': Several Bisons players are in the midst of some nice stretches at the plate. INF Josh Barfield has hit in nine consecutive games with a .308 batting average (12-39). INF Andy Gonzalez has reached base safely in 27 of 29 games this year with a team-high 19 walks and a .368 on-base percentage. C Wyatt Toregas has reached safely in 17 of his last 18 games played (.236, 13-55, 9BB). INF Michael Aubrey has reached safely in each of his first seven games at the Triple-A level.

ROSTER MOVE: The Cleveland Indians purchased the contract of OF Jason Tyner today. Tyner hit .234 (22-94) with one homerun, seven RBI and six steals in 31 games for Buffalo. He went 1-3 in last night's game to extend his hit streak to 10 games. To make roster room, the Tribe optioned RHP Tom Mastny back to Buffalo. Mastny began the year with the Bisons (4G, 6.75ERA, 5.1IP, 4ER, 9K) before being promoted to Cleveland, 4/15-5/10 (2G, 10.80ERA, 1.2IP, 2ER, 3K).

BISONS BITS: Dating back to 2006, the Bisons have won 10 of their last 14 games at Frontier Field...RHP Rick Bauer has pitched scoreless baseball in 12 of his 13 outings. His 7 saves are the 3rd most in the IL...OF Bronson Sardinha started his first game with the Bisons last night (0-3). He made his team debut as a defensive replacement on Friday night.
