Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons open up a four-game series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees at PNC Field (7:00 p.m.). The Herd is on a seven-game roadtrip that began on Saturday in Pawtucket. Buffalo is currently 1-2 on the trip after losing the series to the Red Sox. On the mound today is RHP Brian Slocum. The righty suffered his first loss of the season on Thursday after allowing four runs in three innings to Syracuse. The Yankees will counter with RHP Jeff Marquez.
HAVE YOU HERR'D: Infielder Aaron Herr has been the Bisons hottest hitter of late. He has hit in nine of his last 10 games with a .371 batting average (13-35). Six of the hits during the hot stretch have gone for extra-bases, including a pair of homeruns in Monday's loss to Pawtucket. In his last seven games, Herr has knocked in 11 runs. He now has 14RBI on the season, tops on the Bisons and tied for the third most in the International League.
JUST AS HOT: Infielder Josh Barfield is also swinging a hot bat and has hit in five straight games with a .304 average (7-23). Like Herr, Barfield has a two-homer game to his credit as he went deep twice on Saturday night in Pawtucket. Yesterday, Barfield hit his third homerun of the season, tying him with Herr and Andy Gonzalez for the team lead.
AIR JORDAN: Infielder Jordan Brown had another multi-hit performance yesterday as he singled and doubled in five trips. It was Brown's ninth multi-hit game already this year, four more than any other Bisons player. Brown now leads the Herd with 22 hits while his seven doubles are tied for the second most in the International League. He is also second on the tam with a .306 batting average and tied for third in the IL with 13 runs scored.
ALWAYS ON: Infielder Andy Gonzalez didn't have a hit yesterday but did draw three walks. He is now second on the Herd with 10 free passes, just one behind Ryan Mulhern. Gonzalez already has the top batting average on the team at .318. With the walks, his on-base percentage is .444, tied for the third highest in the International League.
ROSTER MOVE: The Cleveland Indians have recalled Ben Francisco today. The outfielder hit .208 (15-72) with two doubles, a triple and three RBI in 18 games with Buffalo this year. In 2008, he won the IL Batting Championship with a .318 average.
