Today's Game:
The Buffalo Bisons take on the Louisville Bats in the second game of a four-game series from Louisville Slugger Field (6:05 p.m.). The Herd won the series opener last night, 7-5. Following this series, the Bisons will continue their roadtrip in Indianapolis, May 14-17.
Road Sweet Road
The Bisons are 12-3 away from Coca-Cola Field this season, having won 11 of their last 13 road contests. Buffalo is just 9-9 at home this season. The Herd has made just seven errors in 15 road games and have a 3.60 team ERA -a run better than their home mark (4.68).
vs. the Bats
The Bisons have not won a four-game series at Louisville Slugger Field since going 3-1 in 2008. Since then, the Bats have two series wins and two splits with the Herd at home. Since rejoining the IL in 1998, the Bisons are just 28-33 (.459) in Kentucky.
Romero to Start
LHP RICKY ROMERO makes his Bisons debut today after being optioned by Toronto on Friday. The southpaw made two appearances with the Blue Jays (4.1 IP, 6 R) after beginning the year at Dunedin (A). Romero won 51 Major League games with Toronto, 2009-2012, and was an A.L. All-Star in 2011 when he went 15-11 with a 2.92 ERA.
Jim Negrych
For the second time this year, INF JIM NEGRYCH has a nine-game hit streak. Since May 2, he has averaged .432 (16-37) with five multi-hit performances. Negrych's .430 average is 22 points better than any hitter in baseball. He also leads all IL hitters in on-base pct. (.482) and slugging pct. (.670) and is 2nd in doubles (13) and 4th in runs scored (22).
Closer
RHP NEIL WAGNER struck out six of the eight hitters he faced last night for an eight-out save. The righty is second in the IL with nine saves on the season. Wagner has allowed just two hits while striking out 20 in his last 11.2 innings of work. He has also allowed just 1 of 14 inherited runners to score this year (7%).
Bisons Bits
RHP MICHAEL SCHWIMER was optioned to the Bisons yesterday. The 2011 IL All-Star was 2-1 with a 4.46 ERA in 35 games with the Phillies in 2012....The Bisons lead the IL with 37 home runs after hitting 3 last night...Romero's start is the first by a lefty for the Herd in 2013.
Toronto's (13-24) was shutout 5-0 by the Red Sox last night. Former Bisons RHP RAMON ORTIZ allowed just one run in five innings but suffered the defeat. The Blue Jays had just one hit in the loss. Toronto is back in action with a 1:35 p.m. game against the Red Sox at Fenway.
