Buffalo Bisons News Release

The International League today announced that Buffalo Bisons infielder ANDY BURNS has been named the league's Batter of the Week. He is the second Bisons player to earn a weekly award this season, joining LHP Thomas Pannone, who won Pitcher of the Week on July 1.

Burns' 14 hits in his last seven games were two more than any other hitter in the International League as he finished his week with a .500 average (14-28), two doubles, a home run, seven RBI and three walks. Along with getting a hit in half his at-bats, the veteran also posted a .548 on-base percentage, a .679 slugging percentage and a 1.227 OPS.

Burns had four multi-hit performances during the week, starting with a three-hit day in the Bisons game against Rochester on July 30, with two of the hits driving in runs. He then had a two-run home run and an RBI-single in a three-hit game the following night in Lehigh Valley. He went 2-for-4 as the Herd return home to Buffalo to face the Mets on Friday and then singled in each of his first four at-bats in the Herd's 9-7 win over Syracuse on Saturday night.

For the season, Burns has hit .283 with 15 doubles, 11 home runs and 40 RBI in 93 games played. He has also walked a team-best 50 times while ranking fourth on the Herd with 44 runs scored.
