Buffalo Bisons News Release
Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Syracuse Chiefs in the first game of a two-game series from Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). The Herd returns home from Syracuse after winning the three-games in two-day series over the Chiefs, 2-1. The Bisons have now won five of their last seven games, including back-to-back series victories.
vs. THE CHIEFS: The Herd has won two straight over Syracuse after the Chiefs won the first eight games of the season series. The last time the Chiefs were in Coca-Cola Field they picked up a four-game sweep over the Herd, April 24-27. Last night, the Bisons collected their 100th win over Syracuse since rejoining the IL in 1998 (most wins against any one team).
LEADING THE CHARGE: INF Mike Lamb was a perfect 4-4 at the plate last night to lead the Bisons past the Chiefs. Lamb had a triple, two runs scored and two RBI. With this effort, Lamb increased his hit streak to a personal season high of seven games. Lamb has hit (.440, 11-25) with three RBI and five runs since June 8. The stretch has raised his average 35 points to .219.
NIESE-LY DONE: RHP Jonathon Niese is coming off his best outing as a Bison. Niese allowed just two hits in 7.1 shutout innings to beat Durham last Friday, 1-0. Niese struck out seven batters in that outing. In his last two starts, Niese is 1-1 with a 1.35ERA with 11 strikeouts in 13.1 innings pitched.
DONE LIKE DESSENS: RHP Elmer Dessens has already collected six saves this month. The veteran has converted 11 straight save opportunities. Those 11 saves are tied for 4th most in the International League. On the year, opponents are hitting just .179 off Dessens with five extra-base hits in 117 at-bats.
UNHITTABLE: RHP Adam Bostick continues his dominance. The reliever has not allowed a hit in his six appearances with the Herd. Bostick has worked 6.2 innings out of the Bisons bullpen, striking out six and allowing just three walks.
ALL-STAR STAFF: The International League announced that Bisons Manager Ken Oberkfell has been added to the IL's coaching staff for the Triple-A All-Star game on July 15. Oberkfell will serve under Louisville Manager Rick Sweet. Oberkfell has 834 wins in his 13-year career as a minor league manager.
MEET THE METS: The Mets held off the Baltimore Orioles last night in the first game of a three game series for a 6-4 victory. Former Bison INF Alex Cora went 3-5 with a run scored. Slugger David Wright went 2-5 with a run and an RBI, maintaining his stellar .365 batting average. Tim Redding (0-2) takes the mound tonight at Camden Yards (7:05 p.m.) looking for his first win of the year.
