Buffalo Bisons News Release
Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Columbus Clippers in the second game of a four-game set from Huntington Park (7:05 p.m.). The Bisons lost last night in an offensive battle to open the series, 9-6. The Herd is looking to snap a six-game losing skid which included a four-game sweep in Toledo to begin this eight-game roadtrip. After the series, the Herd returns home to Coca-Cola Field to open up a nine-game homestand against Rochester and Lehigh Valley.
vs. THE CLIPPERS: The Bisons are 2-3 against Columbus thus far in 2009. The teams split a four-game series back at Coca-Cola Field, May 21-24, with Columbus taking the first two games and Buffalo winning the last two contests. Since returning to the IL, Buffalo holds a 48-45 (.516) advantage over Columbus. Buffalo was 21-23 at Cooper stadium and is now 0-1 in the new ballpark.
ROAD SWEET ROAD: INF/OF Nick Evans continues to prefer life away from home. The slugger hit a two-run homer in last night's game and enters tonight with a 14-game road hit streak. Over a stretch that began July 12, Evans has averaged .316 (18-57) away from Coca-Cola Field with ten extra-base hits (6 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs). It's the longest active road hit streak in the IL and four games behind Syracuse's Jorge Padilla (18G) for the longest streak in the IL this season.
THE GREEN MACHINE: INF Andy Green has been swinging a hot bat of late for the Herd. The infielder had a double and drove in a run in last night's game. Green has a seven-game hit streak which is tied for the current lead with Nick Evans for the Bisons. In this stretch, Green has gone 7-26 (.269) with three home-runs, four RBI and a double.
SNYDER TAKES THE MOUND: RHP Kyle Snyder gets the start in tonight's game for the Bisons. The veteran looks to bounce back from a couple of tough starts. The righty has started eight games on the season with a 5.23ERA and 11 walks to 25 strikeouts in 32.2 innings of work. Snyder has an overall 4.32ERA with 22 walks to 56 strike outs in 73.0 innings of work on the season.
MEET THE METS: The New York Mets (51-57) lost the first game of a four-game series in San Diego last night, 8-3. Fernando Tatis went 2-4 with an RBI and former Bison Elmer Dessens pitched a scoreless inning in the losing effort. New York concludes this seven-game roadtrip by traveling to Arizona for three games, August 10-12. The Mets are now 11.0 games back from the N.L. East leading Phillies.
