Today's Game

This afternoon, the Bisons open the 2018 season against the Rochester Red Wings after being postponed on Friday. Last season, the Herd was 5-12 against their Thruway Cup rival and just 1-5 at Frontier Field. The Herd begins the season with two games in Rochester and then will continue on for three games at McCoy Stadium against the Pawtucket Red Sox. After the roadtrip the Bisons will return home for their home opener on April 12.

Bobby Meacham

Bobby Meacham returns as the manager of the Bisons for a second straight season. The former MLB shortstop and member of the 1989 Bisons' roster joined the Blue Jays organization in 2014. Meacham guided the Herd to a 14-8 record in the month of April in 2017, including a four-game winning streak to start the season.

vs. Rochester (0-0)

The Red Wings will be led by former Bisons' manager Joel Skinner in 2018. Skinner was named manager during the offseason, and succeeds Mike Quade who spent the last three years in Rochester. Zack Granite is one of ten returning members of the 2017 Red Wings roster. Eleven players on the roster appeared in the Major Leagues last year as well.

Joe Biagini

RHP Joe Biagini was named the Bisons' Opening Day starter earlier this week. The former Rule-V selection spent the majority of the last two seasons with the Blue Jays, including 60 relief outings in 2016. Biagini also made 18 starts for Toronto in 2017, in addition to four starts with the Bisons. He was 1-1 with a 3.12ERA (17.1IP) for the Herd.

Top Prospects in Buffalo

The Bisons roster boasts six of the Blue Jays' top 20 prospects within the organization, with C Danny Jansen (#6) and LHP Ryan Borucki (#8) inside of the top eight. The list is rounded out by INF Richard Urena (#11), C Reese McGuire (#14), 1B Rowdy Tellez (#15), and RHP Carlos Ramirez (#17).

Roemon Fields

OF Roemon Fields returns to the Bisons after being named the team's 2017 Most Valuable Player. The 27 year-old also led the International League in steals with 43. The mark also set a new record in the Bisons' Modern Era.

Major League Experience

The Bisons roster boasts 14 players that appeared in the Major Leagues in 2017, including 10 on the Herd's pitching staff. In addition to Joe Biagini, Deck McGuire and Chris Rowley all pitched in the big leagues, and two of the team's outfielders, Dwight Smith Jr. and Ian Parmley, made their MLB debuts last season.

Darnell Sweeney

INF Darnell Sweeney is the newest member of the Herd, signed by the Blue Jays earlier this week and added to the Bisons' roster in time for Opening Day. Originally drafted by the Dodgers, Sweeney made is MLB debut in 2015 as a member of the Phillies.

Blue Jays Update

Toronto began their nine game road trip with an 8-5 win over the Texas Rangers on Friday night. Marco Estrada worked six innings to notch his first win of the season, and Russell Martin was 3-4 at the plate with a home run and 3RBI. Justin Smoak is the reigning American League Player of the Week, and chipped in his tenth RBI of the season in the win as well.
