From the Notes

SNOW-PENING NIGHT: The Columbus Clippers iced the Indianapolis Indians last night in the season opener, using a nine-run sixth inning to overcome a 2-0 deficit en route to an 11-4 rout. A throwing error by Jose Osuna at third base opened the floodgates, with Columbus plating six more runs following the miscue -- four coming on a grand slam by 12-year major league veteran Mike Napoli. Nick Kingham allowed just one hit over five scoreless innings for the Tribe, but relievers Tanner Anderson and Brett McKinney were both tagged with five earned runs apiece in the loss. Austin Meadows and Max Moroff paced the offense with a combined four knocks, both of Moroff's going for extra bases. He and Jacob Stallings accounted for all of Indy's RBI, as well.

RIGHT WHERE HE LEFT OFF: Since July 24, 2017, Tribe starter Nick Kingham has been elite at the Triple-A level. In his last 10 starts -- including his seven scoreless innings against Durham in last year's Governors' Cup Semifinals -- he's posted a 2.57 ERA (18 ER/63.0 IP). If you remove his Aug. 26, 2017 start vs. the Clippers (3.2ip, 8er), his ERA would fall to 1.52 (10 ER/59.1 IP).

A PERFECT 10: Nick Kingham delivered the second 10-strikeout game of his career last night but unfortunately earned no decision. He struck out the side in the second, fourth and fifth innings to match his career high set back on April 28, 2013 with High-A Bradenton.

EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT: Five of Indianapolis' nine hits last night went for extra bases in the defeat. Austin Meadows and Jose Osuna each collected a double, while Moroff had a pair of two-baggers. Christopher Bostick added a triple in the third inning but a blew a stop sign at third base and was thrown out at the plate attempting for an inside-the-park home run. Moroff tied a career high with his two-double effort. He had previously accomplished the feat four times, twice in 2015 and once each in both 2014 and 2013.

CAN'T STRING A STREAK: The Indians' drought of posting consecutive wins on Opening Day continued with last night's defeat. Indy hasn't won consecutive Opening Day affairs since a three-game stretch from 2003-05.

NINER: In 2017 Indy's largest inning for runs allowed was eight, completed in the seventh inning on Aug. 3 at Columbus in a 10-1 loss. Last night's nine-run sixth inning eclipsed 2017's season-high mark.
