Biscuits Stymie Barons in 1-0 Shutout Loss

Birmingham, AL - The Barons dropped their first home series of the season, falling by a score of 1-0 to the Montgomery Biscuits in front of a record Regions Field crowd of 8,512.

The lone run of the game was scored in the second inning on an RBI double by Kyeong Kang. Barons starter Stephen McCray (4-3, 2.86) was the tough luck loser, allowing one run on just five hits over 7.0 innings.

Biscuits starter Victor Mateo (2-4, 6.86) dominated the Barons for much of the night, scattering three hits and striking out seven over 7.0 shutout innings. All three hits allowed were singles for the Barons who mustered just 18 total hits over the final four games of the series.

The loss dropped the Barons to 26-14 on the season while Montgomery improved to 21-19.

The sellout was the third of the season for the Barons and second in a row. Over the first 20 games at Regions Field, the Barons have drawn a Southern League leading 109,194 fans, their second highest 20 game total in the franchise's modern era (1964-present).

The Barons will head on the road Friday to begin an 11-day, 10 game road trip starting with five games in Jackson, Tennessee against the Generals. The Barons will send LHP Spencer Arroyo (3-1, 1.99) to the mound in game one against LHP Roenis Elias (2-3, 3.09). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
