Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (44-43) fell behind by six runs after three innings of play and were unable to make a comeback against the Biloxi Shuckers (44-44) as they fell by a score of 6-1 on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

A leadoff triple from Tyler Black put Biloxi in a great position to score during the first inning, allowing Jackson Chourio to capitalize on the opportunity with an RBI-single. It is the fifth-straight game the Biscuits have entered the second inning trailing, but Mason Montgomery (2-3) was able to minimize the damage as the inning closed with a 1-0 lead for the Shuckers.

Things got worse for the Butter and Blue in the second when Felix Valerio crushed a solo-shot and Chourio followed with a two-run homer to right field, giving the Shuckers a 4-0 lead. The home run party continued in the third and fourth innings, with Wes Clarke and Lamar Sparks recording a pair of solo-homers during that span.

It resulted in an early end to Montgomery's night, as the lefty finished with season highs in hits, earned runs, and home runs allowed over 3.2 innings pitched. John Doxakis entered the game in the top of the fourth and sent the game into the next frame with the score 6-0.

Mason Auer grounded out to Black at third base to start the bottom frame, but that is when inclement weather forced the game into a delay. After one hour and 51 minutes, play resumed as T.J. Shook (4-3) retired the next two batters and moved the game into the fifth.

Antonio Melendez opened the inning on the mound for Montgomery after being called up from the Bowling Green Hot Rods earlier in the day. The righty put together a strong opening by retiring three of his first four batters, allowing only one hit in the process.

The Biscuits struck in the bottom of the inning when Tristan Peters fired an RBI-single into the left-field corner. It was all Montgomery could get as they trailed 6-1 with four innings left to play.

Both sides combined to produce only three hits with no runs during the span, as the Shuckers walked away with a 6-1 victory. Shook earned the win while Montgomery recorded the loss, and Biloxi will have a chance to clinch the series tomorrow night.

The Biscuits and Shuckers will enter the penultimate matchup of the series on Saturday, July 22 with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 PM. It will be Kimchi Night presented by Pulmuone and includes MAX Fireworks along with Cole Wilcox (2-8) on the mound for Montgomery.

The rest of the homestand will close with a Lil' Crumbs Christmas in July Ornament Giveaway along with MAX Fireworks on Sunday, July 23.
