Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Jonathan Aranda and Seaver Whalen had four RBIs apiece as the Biscuits (15-17) rolled to their third-consecutive win, 13-5, over the Birmingham Barons (20-12) on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Jordan Brink opened for the first time as a Biscuit, but ran into trouble in the first, serving up a bases-clearing three-run double to Carlos Perez to make it 3-0 Barons early.
The Biscuits wasted little time in responding in the bottom of the first, however, as lead-off hitter Garrett Whitley stepped up and clubbed a bomb of a solo home run to left-center field to pull one back for the Butter and Blue against John Parke. Later in the inning, Jonathan Aranda scorched a three-run blast of his own to right-center, and put the Biscuits ahead, 4-3.
Brink was back on the mound to begin the second, and after surrendering a double to Gunnar Troutwine, Ti'Quan Forbes came up and knocked an RBI-single to right to tie the game at four.
Jake Elliott (2-2) would come on for Parke in the second, and after working a clean inning, the right-hander allowed a two-run blast to Whalen that broke the deadlock and gave the Biscuits the lead again for good at 6-4. An Elliott throwing error in the fourth added a seventh run for Montgomery.
The Biscuits would tack on three more in the fifth thanks to a bases-loaded walk to Whitley issued by Alec Hansen, and a two-run single by Miles Mastrobuoni to make it 10-4. Aranda smacked an RBI-double off Peter Tago in the sixth to make it 11-4.
Michael Plassmeyer (2-1), who came on for Brink in the third, was outstanding once again in his third-straight outing as the bulk guy, tossing five shutout innings to run his consecutive-scoreless innings streak to a team-high 15. Whalen added a two-run double in eighth after a J.J. Muno solo shot for the Barons off Nathan Witt in the same inning.
The Biscuits will go for four in a row when RHP Tobias Myers (2-1) goes against RHP Blake Battenfield (4-0) Friday at 6:35 PM CT when there will be a Reversible Bucket Hat Giveaway presented by Gipson's Tire Pros.
The rest of the series will include Family Faith Night with MAX Fireworks on Saturday, June 12, and a Toothbrush Holder Giveaway by Dentistry for Children on Sunday, June 13.
