Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY - Buy me some peanuts, Cracker Jack and biscuits and syrup.

Montgomery Biscuits fans will be able to scarf down their team's edible namesake and soak up some syrup while they soak in a ballgame at the club's new, $26 Million downtown ballpark. The news comes thanks to partnerships with Mary B's Biscuits and Alaga Syrup, announced today.

It is believed that the team will be the only professional sports franchise offering biscuits and syrup alongside hot dogs and other traditional ballpark fare.

"We're very proud of our partnerships with Mary B's Biscuits and with Alaga Syrup," said team Co-Owner Sherrie Myers. "Not only because of the relationship, but because we're happy to be able to offer our fans the best biscuits and syrup available anywhere. Besides, how could you go to a Biscuits game and not have a great biscuit? Because it's so closely tied to our team identity, we had to offer first-rate products."

Mary B's Biscuits, manufactured by Hom/Ade Foods, Inc. of Bagdad, Fla., are the no. 1 fresh-baked frozen biscuits on the market. The product debuted in 1998, and from a humble start is available in nearly 9,000 retail locations, including Wal-Mart stores nationwide. The company has a biscuit-making plant in Montgomery.

"We know a winner when we see one," said Hom/Ade Chairman Howard H. Burris. "When we heard about the Biscuits playing ball in our region, we knew we had to become the team's official biscuit. Fans of biscuits across the country have come to love Mary B's Biscuits and now fans of the Montgomery Biscuits will be able to enjoy the same product in the ballpark that they enjoy fresh out of their own oven."

Alaga, a trademark of Whitfield Foods, Inc., has been the premier brand of syrup and hot sauce in the South for decades. Based in Montgomery, Whitfield Foods has been operating for nearly 100 years.

"Whitfield Foods' sponsorship of the Montgomery Biscuits is a natural for many reasons, especially the fact that biscuits and Alaga Syrup have been a longtime Southern staple." said President and CEO Les Massey. "We see our sponsorship as not only support of the Biscuits, but also of the community and revitalization of historic downtown Montgomery, a history that Alaga Syrup has been a part of since 1906."

The Biscuits and syrup will be served at a specially-designed portable concessions cart, branded with both Mary B's and Whitfield Foods logos.

In addition to serving them at concession stands, the Biscuits will also be firing Mary B's Biscuits between innings to fans in the stands from a specially-designed biscuit launcher. Both products will be featured on "Whitfield Foods Syrup Soppin' Sundays," in which contestants will scramble to see who can sop up the most Alaga Syrup with Mary B's Biscuits.

Many other unique food options and southern specialties, such as barbecue pork and boiled peanuts, will be available at the concession stands at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium.
