Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis earned their first win of the spring with a 9-4 victory over new New York Mets affiliate New Orleans in Port St. Lucie, FL Thursday afternoon.

The Redbirds wasted no time, scoring two runs in the first inning and seven in the first four. Rico Washington went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Travis Hanson continued his hot hitting with two hits, including a two-run home run in the third inning. Hanson is now 4-for-8 with four RBI in Memphis' two spring games. Jon Jay and Matt Dryer each drove in runs and singled twice, while Reid Gorecki doubled and scored twice.

Left-hander Troy Cate started for the 'Birds and allowed three runs on six hits in three innings. Cate fanned two with no walks on 50 pitches. Mike Parisi followed with three solid innings, allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts. Relievers Matt Scherer, Hugo Castellanos and Mark Worrell combined for three hitless innings to close out the Memphis victory.

The 'Birds will play their first home game of the spring tomorrow afternoon when they host Las Vegas (Los Angeles Dodgers). First pitch is scheduled for noon CST.
