Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

(SIOUX FALLS, SD) –The Kansas City T-Bones foiled an otherwise perfect evening at the Birdcage as they topped the Canaries 5-4 in the home exhibition opener Friday night.

After spotting the T-Bones a 3-0 lead in the top of the third, the Canaries answered with a run in their half of the third on an RBI double by CF Tyrone Pendergrass. They would go on to tie the contest with an RBI single in the fifth off the bat of SS Marc Mirizzi and a sacrifice fly by RF Will Pennyfeather. 3B Troy Farnsworth would give the Birds the lead an inning later with a solo homer high over the left field wall.

The T-Bones plated two runs in the seventh inning off of eventual loser, LHP Bryan Felkel to reclaim the lead. Two Kansas City relievers combined to shut out Sioux Falls over the final three frames.

The Canaries got quality pitching outings from RHPs Matt Koziara, Chad Johnson and Ramon Linares, who combined for five shutout innings.

Sioux Falls will be back in action Saturday night in St. Paul with a 7:05 start against the Saints. They kick off the regular season next Friday, May 23rd in Schaumburg, IL.
