Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
ABERDEEN, MD - In a game that last just an hour and 48 minutes, the Cyclones fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds by the score of 3-1 at Ripken Stadium. It marked the eighth time in 22 games this season that Brooklyn has scored one run or less. RHP Junior Santos received a no decision but had his best outing of the season, tossing 5.0 shutout frames and scattering just a pair of hits and walks while striking out two.
After trading zeroes through the first two frames, Brooklyn drew first blood in the top of the third. Jose Peroza doubled to start the frame, it was his first extra-base hit of the year, and was soon chased home by a Matt O'Neill double into the right field corner to give Brooklyn a 1-0 edge.
But that would be all of the offense that Brooklyn would muster on Tuesday night, as Aberdeen reliever Ignacio Feliz pitched the final 5.0 innings of the game and allowed just one base runner - a two out double to O'Neill in the 5th - before retiring the final 13 batters he faces in order.
Meanwhile, the 'Birds bats came to life in the seventh against Brooklyn reliever Nolan Clenney (1-2). The righthander issued a one-out walk to Donta' Williams and a single to Collin Burnes that put a pair aboard for Ramon Rodriguez. With the IronBirds catcher at the plate Williams stole third and would later come home on an RBI groundout to tie the game. Then, with two outs and a runner on second base, Connor Norby crushed the first pitch he saw for an RBI double to give Aberdeen the lead.
Aberdeen tacked on an insurance run in the 8th on a TT Bowens RBI double to make the final score 3-1.
The Cyclones will continue their series in Maryland on Wednesday when they send LHP Nick Zwack to the mound for his Cyclones debut. Game time is 7:05 PM.
