Biloxi Wins Game Three in Bullpen Battle

KODAK, TN- The Smokies and the Shuckers played a tightly contested game tonight with the Shuckers pulling out the win 3-2. The Smokies left runners at first and third in the final inning to drop game three.

Tennessee jumped out in front early and often when BJ Murray and Nelson Maldonado hit back-to-back doubles to take an early 1-0 lead in the first frame. The Smokies tacked on another run in the second inning when Cubs first round pick Matt Shaw recorded his first Double-A RBI with a double to make it 2-0.

Biloxi tied the game up at two in the top of the third inning on a monster shot by Brewers top prospect Jackson Chourio to make it 2-2. The Shuckers took their first lead of the night in the top of the fourth inning when Zavier Warren hit a wall-scraping home run on the first pitch of the inning to make it 3-2.

The Shuckers bullpen would shutout the Smokies the rest of the way, tossing a combined six innings and allowing only three hits and six strikeouts. The Smokies pen went toe to toe with Biloxi tossing four shutout innings.

The series continues tomorrow at 7:00 P.M. at Smokies Stadium. The Smokies will start Walker Powell (11-5), while Biloxi starts Carlos Rodriguez (7-5). Walker Powell leads the Southern League with seven consecutive wins in a row.
