Bijev's Sensational Strike Wins Goal of the Week

Villyan Bijev's game-winning goal in the 87th minute against Orange County SC on September 9 has won the Fans' Choice Goal of the Week after receiving 45% of the vote from supporters.
The winger guided Sacramento - playing with just 10-men - to a 2-1 advantage late in the match when midfielder Jaime Villarreal spotted Bijev on the flank and the former Liverpool FC playmaker steered his carefully placed shot towards the near post. The blistering effort nicked off the inside of the woodwork and past the OCSC goalkeeper for the eventual game-winner.
The goal was the Bulgarian-born wingers second game-winning goal this season after scoring from the penalty spot during Republic FC's 1-0 win on August 12 over Reno 1868 FC. Bijev has now bagged seven career game-winning goals over his career in the California Capital.
Bijev's game-winner was his second this season.
Next up for Bijev and the boys in Old Glory Red is a Sunday night fixture against fellow Group A opponent Tacoma Defiance on September 20. A win or draw for Republic FC will guarantee Mark Briggs' men are headed to the 2020 USL Championship playoffs. The match will be broadcast locally on KQCA My58 and Estrella TV Sacramento, as well as streamed on ESPN+ with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. PT.
