Bighorns outlast Stampede

BOISE, Idaho - David Noel scored 28 points, helping the Reno Bighorns defeat the Idaho Stampede 119-115 in Boise on Saturday night.

Stampede forward Lance Allred scored 12 of his 24 points in the first quarter as the teams finished the quarter knotted up 30-30. Reno managed to gain a 66-58 advantage going into halftime, led by Richie Frahm, who scored 12 of his 26 points in the final four minutes before the break.

Idaho went into the fourth quarter down 84-94, but managed to cut the Reno lead to three points with 4:08 remaining. The teams exchanged baskets in the final minutes of the game, but the Bighorns managed to hang on for the victory.

Reno benefited from shooting an outstanding 53.8% (43-80) from the field and 55.6% (10-18) from beyond the arc. Richie Frahm led the three-point assault, shooting 67% (6-9) from deep. Russell Robinson added 25 points for the Bighorns.

Jason Ellis finished the game with his second consecutive double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Nathan Jawai, on assignment from the Toronto Raptors, also finished with a double-double scoring 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Mohammed Abukar dropped in 19 points, while Kevin Burleson added 17 points, in the loss.

"Reno played a great game," said Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates. "Hats off to Richie Frahm and David Noel; they are two of the best wings in the league. We gave it our best shot and we will see them again next Saturday."

The Stampede start a three game road trip on Saturday night against the Bighorns. Reno returns home to go up against Iowa on Thursday night.
