Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans return home to BB&T Coastal Field to begin a six-game home-stand on Friday, May 16th against the Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Kinston Indians. With a firm grip on first place in the Southern Division, the Pelicans, who also own the best record in the Carolina League, will square off with the Blue Rocks from May 16th through the 18th. Following an off day on Monday, May 19th, the Pelicans will tighten the laces on their cleats and begin a three-game set with the Kinston Indians on Tuesday, May 20th.

The home-stand appetizer will be served up on Friday when the Pelicans welcome the Zooperstars, a nationally recognized travelling act of famous inflatable mascots including: Shark McGwire, Clammy Sosa, Payton Manatee and Nomar Garciaparrot. Along with enjoying the wild and crazy Zooperstars, fans can compete in the second Myrtle Beach Pelicans Baseball Bingo of the season. Friday is also YMCA Night, which appropriately coincides with a Chevy youth pre-game parade around the warning track honoring local youth teams.

The Pelicans love to celebrate St. Patrick's Day so much that we've created a second St. Patty's Day to be observed during game two of the series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. The Pelicans will wear special St. Patty's Day green caps that will be auctioned off as part of a silent auction to benefit the Tom Gardiner Foundation. In addition, the Pelicans will hide "pots of gold" in little-known spots throughout the ballpark. Great prizes are up for grabs for those that hunt down the "gold". Finally, Pelicans Intern Nate Martin, who stands 6 feet seven inches tall, will attempt to etch his name in the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest Leprechaun to ever grace the universe. As with every Saturday home game, locals receive Pelicans tickets at a discounted price of $5.

All proceeds from the silent auction on Saturday will benefit the Tom Gardiner Foundation. The foundation was set up to assist Myrtle Beach ambassador Tom Gardiner, who is inflicted with stage three Myeloma. To find out more about the Tom Gardiner Foundation and how you can help, visit www.tomgardinerfoundation.com.

The series finale on Sunday is Muscular Dystrophy Association: Salute to Heroes Night at BB&T Coastal Field with a special start time of 6:05 p.m. for Family Fun Day. The Pelicans will be dressed in unique retro-throwback jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game to benefit the MDA. Local heroes including, Myrtle Beach firefighters and veterans of the military will be on-hand. Upon entrance into BB&T Coastal Field, fans will receive a commemorative ALS/MDA pin. To cap off the night, the Pelicans will illuminate the Grand Strand with a fantastic fireworks display. To learn more about the Muscular Dystrophy Association and ways to facilitate their cause, visit them online at www.mda.org.

The daily promotion for the series finale is pre-game catch on the field. The outfield will be open for fans to play catch from 5:10-5:30 p.m.

After a day of rest on Monday, the Pelicans will begin their series against rival Kinston on Tuesday. The Pelicans will honor the brave men and women of the United States Military with Military Appreciation Night. Members of the military, past and present, will be honored throughout the night.

Instead of ridiculing "geeks", the Pelicans will honor computer loving, video game playing and Steve Earkle pants wearing individuals with Geek Night on Wednesday. The most well-travelled and distinguished geek in the world, Myron Noodleman will be making an appearance at BB&T Coastal Field to entertain fans.

The series and home-stand concludes on Thursday, May 22nd, which is Indiana Jones Night. An Indiana Jones look-a-like will be at BB&T Coastal Field to sign autographs and reenact classic Indiana Jones scenes. It's also Thirsty Thursday presented by Land Shark Lager and Malibu's Surf Bar. Fans that are 21-years of age and older can take advantage of $1 draft beer from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Following the final out, the Pelicans will once again blast off a fireworks extravaganza.

For tickets and information to the upcoming home-stand or any of the remaining home contests at BB&T Coastal Field, call the Pelicans Box Office at 843-918-6000. To find out more information about the promotions, visit the Pelicans online at MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
