Potomac Nationals News Release
(LYNCHBURG, VA) - The Lynchburg Hillcats used a five run seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and beat the Potomac Nationals 6-1 Sunday afternoon at City Stadium. Chris Garcia reached base four times including on a three-run double in the seventh to pace the Hillcats offense.
With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the first three Hillcats singled off Potomac reliever Bobby Hansen Jr. with Matt Lipka knocking the third hit -- an RBI single to give Lynchburg their first lead of the game 2-1. Joe Testa came on for the P-Nats and hit Tommy La Stella with a pitch to load the bases. The next batter he hit as well with Adam Milligan getting an RBI and the Hillcats lead was 3-1. With one out, Rob Wort relieved Testa and struck out Edward Salcedo. But, Chris Garcia sent a ball off of the left field fence clearing the bases and extending the lead to 6-1 for Lynchburg.
Both starters were very sharp. Lynchburg lefty Dimasther Delgado was efficient for the Hillcats and gave up his only run in the third inning. Adrian Sanchez doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a single down the right field line by Blake Kelso to give Potomac a 1-0 lead.
P-Nat starter Adam Olbrychowski struggled with his control walking the bases loaded in the second after walking two in the first. He was able to get out of both jams without giving up a run but couldn't escape the third. A lead off single by Nick Ahmed was the first hit off of Olbrychowski. Ahmed then stole second and third. With two outs and two strikes against Salcedo, Ahmed scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 1--1. The next pitch Olbrychowski threw was a swing and miss from Salcedo.
Delgado (3-1) ended up with the win tossing seven innings and giving up just five hits. He did not strike out a batter and only walked one. Hansen Jr. (1-2) took the loss for the first time in relief in his career.
The P-Nats finished their six game road trip 1-5. They've now lost 14 of their last 16 games away from the Pfitz.
Tomorrow is Memorial Day with the P-Nats hosting the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at 6:05 PM. LHP Robbie Ray (1-1, 8.15) takes the hill for the Nationals against the Carolina League Leader in ERA: RHP Cody Buckel (3-2, 1.33). For tickets, please call us at 703-590-2311 or visit www.potomacnationals.com.
