The Saint John Sea Dogs (23-15-1-3) beat the Halifax Mooseheads (24-16-1-1) 7-1 in a weeknight matchup in Halifax on Wednesday. Two spectacular early saves from netminder Thomas Couture started the Sea Dogs off on the right foot, before two goal performances from William Villeneuve and Josh Lawrence, as well as goals from Ryan Francis, Brady Burns, and William Dufour topped off the scoring for the night.

Thomas Couture got the start for Saint John, facing 24 shots and making 23 saves against Halifax in the win. Brady James started in net for the Mooseheads, stopping 30 of the 37 Sea Dogs shots on the night.

A penalty shot was awarded to Zachary L'Heureux of the Mooseheads after a hooking call against Ryan Francis 44 seconds into the game. L'Heureux came into the zone with speed and thought he had Couture beat, but a quick grab from Couture stopped the puck and kept the game scoreless.

At 3:47, William Villeneuve opened the scoring, ripping a shot from the top of the circle past the Mooseheads goaltender.

Shortly after, a dangerous passing play from L'Heureux and Beauregard developed in the Sea Dogs end, but another incredible save from Couture, this time on his back, maintained the Sea Dogs lead.

William Villeneuve scored his second of the evening, another rocket of a shot, at 12:41.

At 14:01, the Mooseheads scored their first and only goal of the night, Evan Boucher's 12th goal of the season.

Shots after the first were 9-7 for Halifax.

48 seconds into the second frame, Josh Lawrence scored his first goal of the night, tipping a shot from Jérémie Poirier in front of the net. Less than a minute later, Ryan Francis added one of his own, scoring off his backhand on a breakaway.

Midway through the period Lawrence scored his second of the night after a breakout pass sprung him on a breakaway at 10:45.

Shots after the second were 20-15 for Saint John.

The Sea Dogs finished off the game with two more goals, one from Brady Burns at 15:52 and one from William Dufour on a power play at 17:46, his league leading 36th goal of the season, to win the game 7-1.

Final shots were 37-24 for Saint John.
