New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ All it took was one big inning for the New Jersey Jackals to pick up a win in Brockton, as they silenced the Rox after the first inning, while winning 7-2.

The Jackals provided their starter Marty Janzen with a lead before he even set foot on the mound. An RBI single by Elvis Corporan put New Jersey on top 1-0. But the Rox erased that lead in the bottom frame of the first, thanks to a Andrew Salvo two-run homerun, putting the Rox in the lead at 2-1.

But a big top of the third put the Jackals in the lead, as they struck for five runs. Francisco Lebron doubled home two runs, and Steve Checksfield also tallied an RBI with a double. Matt Hagen and Horace Lawrence also had RBIs for the Jackals in the inning.

Neither team would score until the top of the eighth when Zack Smithlin plated another run for the Jackals, their seventh, putting them ahead of the Rox by five, and it would be the last scoring we'd see all evening.

The loss went to Brockton's Kevin Beavers, who only lasted three innings, and surrendered six of the seven Jackal runs. Five of the runs were earned, as he gave up seven hits, while walking one and striking out two.

Marty Janzen picked up the win for the Jackals in six strong innings. He blanked the Rox after they touched him up for two in the first inning. Janzen finished allowing those two runs, both earned, on only three hits, while walking one, and striking out eight.

The Jackals finish their 2005 campaign tomorrow against Brockton, with a 7:05pm first pitch at Campanelli Stadium.
