Big Inning Lifts Tobs to Victory

WILSON, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs scored six runs in the second inning as they cruised past the Petersburg Generals 10-2 in front of 1,402 fans at Historic Fleming Stadium on Thursday night.

Wilson (9-18) was able to push across the six runs in the second off Generals starter Luke Staub (L, 1-2) thanks to key hits from Phillip Williams who collected his ninth double of the season. Additionally, Zack Lee, Geoff Jimenez, Harry Slade and Jackson Slaid all had RBIs in the inning.

The six runs were more than enough for Tobs right-hander Andrew Istler (W, 2-0) who worked five shut out innings while striking out six as Petersburg (13-14) could not muster any offense against the Tobs.

Wilson added four runs in the eighth inning thanks to RBI singles from Slade, Zack Houchins and Joe Costigan as they downed the Generals 10-2.

The Tobs are back in action on Friday night when they travel Wilmington to battle the Sharks. Wilson is back at home on Saturday night against the Sharks, first pitch for each contest is slated for 7:05.

The Wilson Tobs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both the players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and CY Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
