
Big Inning Leads Wingnuts Victory

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (50-36) defeated the Sioux City Explorers (38-48) 11-3 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Saturday night.
Wichita totaled 16 hits and scored seven times in the bottom of the first, while Derek Blacksher worked eight and one-third strong innings to earn his ninth win of the year.
With second and third and one out in the first, C.J. Ziegler lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Jake Kahaulelio and sent John Rodriguez to third. After Greg Porter walked, the Wingnuts strung together five consecutive run-scoring hits with two outs. Wilson Batista started the parade with a two-run double to deep right-center that plated Rodriguez and Porter to make it 3-0 Wichita. David Peralta drove in Batista with a flyball double to left field. Jessie Mier, Mike Conroy, and Ryan Khoury followed with consecutive RBI singles to close out the seven-run outburst.
Blacksher allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits in the win. Blacksher walked two, struck out six, and threw just 97 pitches. The eight and one-third innings are the most by a Wingnuts' starter this season.
Sioux City scored an unearned run against Blacksher in the top of the third. Wichita grabbed the run back in the bottom of the inning when Kahaulelio doubled home Khoury from first with two outs.
Peralta tripled down the right field line leading off the fifth and scored on a line drive single to center from Mier to make it 9-1.
Yusuke Inoguchi drove in Sioux City's final runs with a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the sixth.
An error and an RBI double by Conroy in the bottom of the seventh extended the Wingnuts' lead to 11-3.
Nick Schumacher started for the Explorers and took the loss, allowing nine earned runs on 14 hits in four-plus innings. Schumacher walked one and sturck out one.
Edgar Martinez recorded the final two outs in the ninth for the Wingnuts. Eight of Wichita's nine starters had at least one hit, while all nine reached base. Wichita collected seven extra-base hits. Khoury and Peralta each had three hits, with Peralta adding three runs scored. Rodriguez, Mier, and Conroy also had multi-hit nights.
