San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts used a seven-run fifth inning to cruise to a 10-4 victory over the Abilene Prairie Dogs Monday night at Foster Field.
San Angelo sent 11 men to the plate in the fifth, and eight men reached base. Second baseman Ryan Hutson, left fielder Josh Banda, catcher Michael Pair, centerfielder Ronnie Gaines and first baseman Daryl Jones all drove in at least one run.
Abilene starter Brian Smith (3-4) took the loss, giving up all 10 Colts' runs on 10 hits and five walks. He lasted 4 1/3 innings before getting pulled.
The Prairie Dogs' bullpen held San Angelo scoreless, but their offense failed to come through in the late innings. Abilene scored one run in the final three innings, and left the bases loaded in the ninth.
Left fielder Joe Weik provided all the offense for Abilene, going 3-for-5 with a game-tying three-run homer in the fifth, his ninth of the year, and an RBI single in the seventh. Shortstop Landon Camp hit a solo home run for the Colts, his fourth of the year, to begin the second inning.
Colts' starter Brian Henschel (3-4) earned the win, allowing four runs on 11 hits in seven innings. San Angelo is now 20-17, and on a season-high five-game winning streak. With the loss, Abilene is now 15-21.
The Colts and Prairie Dogs play the finale of this three-game series Tuesday evening at Walt Driggers Field in Abilene. The game can be heard live on KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.
The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
