DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits used a three-run fourth inning to beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 3-0, at Modern Woodmen Park in the 2017 season opener. Taylor Jones opened the scoring with a solo home run and River Bandits pitching combined for 15 strikeouts in the win.
A lead off home run from Jones started the scoring for the River Bandits (1-0) in the fourth. Quad Cities followed with an RBI single by Anibal Sierra and Jake Rogers added to the tally by scoring on a wild pitch.
River Bandits' starter Hector Perez blew away eight Timber Rattlers on strikeouts. The Dominican Republic native lasted 3.2 innings, allowing no runs on only one hit, but exited after back-to-back walks with two outs in the fourth. Abdiel Saldana (1-0) stranded the runners before working a scoreless fifth to get the win.
Wisconsin (0-1) received three strong innings from starter Zack Brown (0-1), who fanned six River Bandits the first time through the order but labored in the fourth, allowing the home run to Jones and two more hits and a walk resulting in a three spot for the River Bandits.
