Lexington County, S.C. (August 9, 2015) -- Resilience took hold once more in these playoffs, as for the third time in three playoff games, the Lexington County Blowfish rallied after a first-inning deficit, defeating the Gastonia Grizzlies in game one of the West Division Final 8-3 on Sunday night.

A four-run fourth inning led the way for the Blowfish. They loaded the bases with two out. Then, Deric Boone (Auburn University Montgomery) stepped to the dish and cranked a bases-clearing double into right-center, putting the Blowfish on top 5-2. Brett Auckland (Presbyterian College) ended the fourth by plating Boone. They would not need to score more, but they did anyway.

Gastonia cut the 6-2 lead in half on a Brennan Morgan RBI single in the fifth inning. Morgan ended the game 2-for-4, responsible for every run the Grizzlies scored on Sunday. His double steal ended a two-run first inning.

A fielder's choice and a groundout from Auckland would conclude his outstanding day, bringing home two more runs and extending the lead to its apex.

Combined with great defense, the bullpen was marvelous for the Blowfish. Michael Gilroy (Winthrop), Canaan Cropper (University of South Carolina) and Nick Jobst (USC-Aiken) all pitched scoreless innings following another solid Trevor Hutto (USC-Aiken) start.

Jobst was tasked with the final inning, and he breezed through it by striking out the side in order. He got Brooks Kennedy to strike out swinging at a high fastball to end the game.

Down 2-0 after the first inning did not faze the Blowfish once more. Auckland walked with one out, bringing up the all-time hits leader in the Coastal Plain League, J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion). Crowe crushed a two-run home run over the right field wall to tie the game in the first inning.

Not once has it mattered that the Blowfish have been outscored 9-5 in the first inning of every playoff game so far. They have rallied to win every single time.

Over the first three playoff games of the 2015 Petitt Cup Playoffs, all at home, the Blowfish have averaged 11 hits per game. This falls directly in line with the double-digit hit average over the past month.

The Blowfish are now one win away from moving on to the Petitt Cup Championship Series. Game two, and three, if necessary, will be played at Sims Legion Park in Gastonia. Catch all of the live action on Z93.1 FM The Lake and the Blowfish Baseball Mobile App. Join the broadcast Monday at 7:05 p.m. for all of the excitement.
