SAVANNAH, Ga. - Two Rome home runs stung Savannah starter Andy Baldwin in the Gnats 4-1 loss Monday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. Rome pulled ahead 2-0 in the top of the third on shortstop Yunel Escobar's line driver home run to right. Escobar's shot scored second baseman JC Holt who'd doubled to lead off the frame.

The Gnats countered with a tally in the bottom half of the inning. Center fielder Doug Vroman drew a leadoff walk, and left fielder Reggie Fitzpatrick doubled to center to give Savannah runners at second and third with only one out. Shortstop Seth Bynum then skied a ball to right field scoring Vroman with the Gnats lone run.

In the top of the sixth, Rome right fielder Brandon Jones smacked his second home run of the series to left-center field. The line shot barely eluded the grasp of Fitzpatrick, who stretched over the fence in an all-out effort to keep the ball in the park.

Bynum finished the night 0-for-3, snapping his 13-game hitting streak. The streak was one game longer than a 12-game run former Gnats shortstop Ian Desmond strung together earlier this season.

Savannah concludes the home stand against the Rome Braves with a 7:05 p.m. tilt Wednesday at Historic Grayson Stadium. Buy your tickets online now at www.sandgnats.com, or by calling the Gnats box office at 912-351-9150.
