Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes lost 12-6 to the San Angelo Colts Friday night at Foster Field. The Coyotes had to work from behind because of a big first inning by the Colts. The last time Carlos Jan (2-4) was in San Angelo he did not record an out allowing six runs on six hits. The second time around for Jan was much of the same. He picked up his fourth loss of the year after allowing nine earned runs on 13 hits in six innings of work. The Colts (53-29) opened up the bottom of the first inning with the first seven hitters getting on base. The Colts scored six runs on five hits to take an early 6-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Colts' offense was not done. After two outs, Jose Torres hit a double to left center field. Then after a walk to Andres Rodriguez and a wild pitch that moved the runners up an extra base, Jason Landreth hit a two run double that scored Torres and Rodriguez which extended the Colts lead to 8-0. Bryan Frichter then hit a single to left field that allowed Landreth to score from second which extend the lead to 9-0. The Coyotes (41-43) finally got to Chris Weast in the top of the fourth inning. Gary Roche reached on a throwing error by Colts' third baseman Aaron Cone. Daryl Jones then hit his 11th home run of the year which made the score 9-2.
But the Colts answered right back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning. After the first two hitters reached, Jan picked up to outs and then Charley Belew hit an RBI single that scored Landreth from second base. Then Tyrone Pendergrass hit a single to center field that scored Cone for an 11-2 advantage. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Coyotes put a dent in the Colts lead. Robert Matlock got things started with a single to left field then Patrick Gaylord followed with a double down the left field line. With runners at second and third Eddie Wilson hit an RBI single to left field that scored Matlock from third. Then Gary Roche hit a single to right field that scored Gaylord from second base.
Then after a walk to Jones, that loaded the bases, Argelis Nunez hit a two run single that scored Wilson and Roche. The Coyotes scored four runs on five hits which cut the lead to 11-6. But the Colts added to their lead with a sacrifice fly to Landreth that scored Albert Gonzalez from third which made the score 12-6. The Coyotes and Colts will continue their final series of the season Saturday night at Foster Field. Eric Montoya will face Frank James in the second game of the series. Montoya is not expected to go deep in the ball game as Manager Vince Moore tries to set up his rotation for the playoffs.
