San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - Carlos Jan fared much longer than he did in his last outing against the Colts, when he allowed six runs without retiring any of the seven batters he faced in the first in an 18-2 San Angelo win on August 1.

The first inning was the big problem for Jan again Friday night, as San Angelo's first seven batters all reached safely again. The Colts dropped another six spot on the Coyotes lefty, and coasted from there to a 12-6 win in front of 2,235 at Foster Field.

Tyrone Pendergrass began the inning with a single to left of Jan (2-4). Then John Anderson slapped one to left and both runners executed a double steal. A wild pitch scored Pendergrass, and after Jose Torres walked, he tried to steal second, but on the play Anderson was thrown out trying to steal home for the first out of the inning. Andres Rodriguez continued his hot hitting though with a first-pitch single for his 101st RBI of the year. Then Jason Landreth walked and Aaron Cone lined a single to center for another run. Bryan Frichter followed with a base hit to left, with the ball eluding left fielder Brandon McConnell for another run and putting Frichter on third. That allowed Chris Mongiardo, making his first appearance of the year, to score Frichter with a groundout.

In the second, the Colts (53-29) extended their lead, with a two-out double from Torres, a walk to Rodriguez, and a two-run double by Landreth. Edinburg (41-43) got two back on a two-run homer from Daryl Jones in the fourth off Weast, but that was all the righty allowed. As was manager Doc Edwards' plan, Weast went the first four, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits.

After the Colts got two more in the bottom of the fourth on RBIS from Charley Belew and Pendergrass, Logan Williamson (12-4) relieved Weast. The lefty took the league lead in wins with a three-inning relief stint, retiring the first seven he faced before the Coyotes made it close with four in the seventh. But Robert Romero (1-2-3 eighth, two strikeouts) and Luke Massetti (1-2-3 ninth on three groundouts) slammed the door on any thoughts of a Coyotes comeback.

Notes: Rodriguez doubled in the eighth to finish his night 2-for-4, raising his batting average to .365. He had come into the day trailing Danny Bravo of Amarillo by 10 points for the league lead...Landreth led the way with three RBIs for the Colts...Mongiardo picked up his first pro hit in nine years with an infield single in the sixth. He was 0-for-5 with an RBI in one game with San Angelo last season...Williamson's other relief appearance this season was in the first game of the year, at Edinburg on May 13.
