Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - The Salem Red Sox (56-62, 24-26) scored five times in the fifth inning on the way to a 7-2 victory over the Frederick Keys (56-63, 21-29) on Tuesday night. In the game, Keys pitchers combined to walk eight batters which was one behind a season-high.

Salem scored their first two runs in the second on just one hit. Josh Tobias led off with a walk and moved to second on a Michael Osinski single. The two then moved up on a wild pitch, and Tobias scored on a Victor Acosta groundout. During a plate appearance where Jagger Rusconi walked, Osinski scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.

The Keys responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Jomar Reyes hit a one-out home run to right field. It was the third baseman's sixth home run of the year.

In the fifth, the Red Sox broke the game open. The first five in the frame reached. Tyler Hill and Brett Netzer each walked. Hill was then brought home on a C.J. Chatham single while Netzer came home on a Jerry Downs double. With Chatham at second, Tobias singled to score him. Two more came home on a Rusconi double which pushed the Salem lead to 7-1.

Frederick would score their second run in the ninth. Chris Clare walked and he scored on a Randolph Gassaway RBI single. That would be as close as the Keys would get, as Algenis Martinez retired Preston Palmeiro to end the game.

Earning the win, Tanner Houck (7-11) fired seven innings of one-run baseball. The right-hander allowed four hits while striking out seven. Matthias Dietz (0-6) took his third straight loss. Matching a career-high with seven walks, Dietz surrendered four runs over four innings and two batters. He struck out two and also hit two batters while allowing just one hit.

The Keys and Red Sox continue their series on Wednesday. Frederick sends left-hander Zac Lowther (3-2, 2.75) to the mound. Right-hander Kevin McAvoy (1-2) makes the start for Salem.
