Pensacola, FL - Behind a six-run eighth inning, the Mississippi Braves sailed to a 9-6 win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Monday night to take their first series of the 2014 season.

The Braves (10-15) sent 12 men to the plate in the deciding inning, highlighted by a three-run triple for left fielder Gustavo Nunez to give Mississippi a lead for good.

JR Graham went four innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out a season-high six and walking just one. He took a no-decision, as did Blue Wahoos starter Michael Lorenzen who allowed two runs on seven hits over five frames.

The Braves got off to an early lead when Elmer Reyes doubled to start the second and came in on a Matt Kennelly RBI single. They made it 2-0 on a Seth Loman solo home run in the third.

The Wahoos battled back to take a lead over the ensuing three innings. In the third, Ray Chang doubled and moved to third on a throwing error by Graham on a sacrifice bunt. Beau Amaral singled to score Chang and make it 2-1 Braves.,

In the fourth, Pensacola (10-15) tied it when Juan Silverio lead off the inning with a double, moved to third on a Juan Duran single and came in to score on a Chang double play.

The Blue Wahoos took a lead with a Travis Mattair RBI single in the fifth, then tacked on another run in the seventh inning with a bases loaded walk to Bryan Anderson to make it 4-2.

But the Braves came surging from behind in the eighth. Pinch-hitter Matt Lipka drew a bases loaded walk to pull it to 4-3 of reliever Fabian Williamson, then Nunez cleared them with a triple to make it 6-4. Emerson Landoni plopped an RBI single to right to make it 7-4, and Reyes tacked on another RBI knock to make it 8-4 Braves.

Mississippi picked up another run in the ninth on another Nunez single, plating Lipka from second base to make it 9-4.

The Wahoos got a pair of runs back in the ninth off of reliever Shae Simmons- the first two runs he's allowed all year- but Simmons got pinch hitter Ross Perez to ground out to end the ballgame.

James Hoyt (1-2) picked up the win in relief for the Braves, and John Cornely, Ryne Harper and Ronan Pacheco also saw time in relief. Fabian Williamson (0-2) took the loss for the Wahoos.

Mississippi has an off day before welcoming the Jacksonville Suns- a Miami Marlins affiliate- to town for Wednesday's series opener. It will be an 11 AM school day game at Trustmark Park, and the Braves have not yet announced a starting pitcher. The Suns will send right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (3-2, 3.77).
