Big D-Man and Gritty Forward Added to Ice Roster

INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice announced today that the team has added defenseman Mike Zeibaq (ZEE-back) and forward Philippe Choiniere (Shwan-EE-air) to its current roster. To make room for the duo, the team released forwards Allan Carr, Marc Collins and Josh Wall and defenseman Justin Barauskas.
"These two acquisitions give us more of a physical presence up front and back at the blueline," said Ice Head Coach Ken McRae.
The 6-1, 210-pound Zeibaq was acquired from the Corpus Christi Rayz for the rights to forward Etienne Morin. The 23-year-old defenseman made his pro debut last season with the El Paso Buzzards, where he posted 17 points (2G, 15A) and was second on the team with 158 penalty minutes.
Before turning pro, he played four years for the Bentley College Falcons of the Atlantic Hockey Conference. He led the team in penalty minutes in three of his four years at the school and his overall collegiate numbers consisted of 26 points (6G, 20A) and 268 penalty minutes in 109 games.
Choiniere, 23, will be making his pro debut with the Ice this season. The 6-1, 200-pound forward has played the last two years for the University of Calgary Dinos of the Canada West Athletic Association where he recorded 25 points (14G, 11A) and 78 penalty minutes in 57 games.
Previous experience also includes a solid season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and two years with the University of Vermont of the East Coast Athletic Conference (NCAA-1). He also won two tournaments as a member of the Canadian National Team in 1999-00.
The Indianapolis Ice launches its 16th season of hockey in the "Circle City" on Saturday, October 18th when the team hosts the Shreveport Mudbugs at 7:00 p.m. from the Pepsi Coliseum.
