Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Jesse Biddle struck out ten batters to earn his second victory of the season and help lead the Fightins to a 1-0 win.
The Reading Fightin Phils only needed one run against the Richmond Flying Squirrels as they won 1-0. Jesse Biddle was dealing on Wednesday night as he threw seven shutout innings while striking out ten batters to earn his second victory of the season.
Tommy Joseph hit a RBI single off Flying Squirrels starter Clayton Blackburn to score Cameron Perkins and give the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kyle Simon made his 2014 Reading Fightin Phils debut and pitched a scoreless eighth inning by only issuing one walk.
Ken Giles earned his sixth save despite giving up consecutive singles to Jarrett Parker and Angel Villalona to lead off the ninth inning. He struck out Mario Lisson and got Brett Krill to ground into a game ending double play. Giles is a perfect six for six in save opportunities on the season.
Reading is now 11-6 as they begin a seven game road trip on Friday night in New Hampshire. First pitch is at 6:35 pm.
