Lancaster Stormers News Release

It's all about the timing.

York strung together four consecutive two-out hits in the bottom of the fifth to score four runs in a 4-3 victory over the Barnstormers Monday evening at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

Lancaster, blessed with far more scoring opportunities, went 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position in the game, losing for the sixth time in the last eight contests.

Starting off the fifth, Cody Johnson's foul pop up barely eluded third baseman Kody Kirkland as he was suspended on the dugout railing. Johnson went on to walk, but Will Savage (3-2) picked up two quick outs and appeared to be on his way through the inning.

Eric Patterson kept the rally alive with a single to right center, chasing Johnson to third. Jeff Fiorentino grounded a single into right for the first run. That base hit was bobbled by right fielder Stephen Holdren, allowing both runners to advance, and they scored when Brian Burgamy singled up the middle. With the game tied, Andy Marte lofted a fly ball to left field. Blake Gailen never picked it up against the twilight sky. Center fielder Jerry Owens raced over to help out, but the ball fell behind Gailen for a run-scoring double. It gave York's pitching staff all the support it needed.

Lancaster had built an early 3-0 lead off former Lancaster lefty Kris Regas. Ryan Harvey slammed a homer well beyond the huge wall in left to lead off the second, and Olmo Rosario followed suit in the third. Kirkland walked to start the fourth, and the Revolution went to Pedro Liriano (1-0). Liriano balked Kirkland to second, and the runner went to third on a grounder by Gustavo Molina. Holdren walked to put runners at the corners. Owens sent a grounder to Burgamy at first. He tried to catch Kirkland in a rundown, but the lead runner was able to duck back to the bag, and Lancaster had the bases loaded with one out. Rosario plated a run with a sacrifice fly, but Gailen grounded to second to end the inning.

While York managed only one additional baserunner in the game, Lancaster had a runner at second base with one out in three of the last four innings. The opportunities in the sixth and eighth went by quietly. In the ninth, Owens walked and stole second. Rosario lifted a fly ball in front of the warning track in left. Owens attempted to advance to third but was doubled up on a close play for the final out.

Lancaster opens a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday. Lefty Horacio Ramirez (0-0) will make the start for Lancaster against right-hander Mitch Atkins (3-1). Game time is 7:00. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cellphone app beginning at 6:45.

NOTES: Harvey leads the club with seven homers...Rosario hit three in the series...Owens, with the walk in the ninth, has reached base in all 16 road games...Gailen stole his first base since April 28...Lancaster was 2-for-34 overall with runners in scoring position in the series...York now leads the War of the Roses, 4-3.
