Philadelphia Union II News Release

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Bethlehem Steel FC have acquired goalkeeper Samir Badr from Colorado Springs Switchbacks, the club announced Friday. Per club and league policy, additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"We are happy to be adding a young talented goalkeeper to our core," said Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke. "We believe Samir has the potential to progress beyond the USL at some stage and we are excited to see what he can do with us in 2016."

Badr, 23, joins Steel FC after playing the past two seasons in USL for Colorado Springs Switchbacks and Oklahoma Energy FC, in which he appeared in 19 games and logged 1,723 minutes. A native of Fairfax, Va., Badr earned three caps for the U.S. Men's National U-20 team in 2010, competing in Peru, Northern Ireland and Holland.

Prior to joining USL in 2014, Badr played oversees in both Egypt and Portugal. A product of FC Porto's youth academy, Badr signed with Vizela of the Portuguese Second Division and joined the Egyptian Premier League's El Hodood via loan in 2012.

Bethlehem Steel FC was officially announced on Oct. 27, 2015. The team will serve as the Philadelphia Union affiliate in the United Soccer League and will play their home games at Goodman Stadium on the campus of Lehigh University. They will officially join USL for the 2016 season, alongside fellow expansion teams FC Cincinnati, Orlando City B, Rio Grande Valley FC Toros and Swope Park Rangers. Former Union assistant coach Brendan Burke was named head coach on Oct. 28 and will lead Bethlehem Steel FC in its first season.
