December 28, 2019 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
The Saint John Sea Dogs (17-18-1-0) fell to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre. A three goal second from the Titan and solid play from Tristan Berubé stifled the Saint John offence.
Saint John was a perfect 5-0 against Bathurst this season heading into the game, their first in two weeks.
The Sea Dogs were without regulars Maxim Cajkovic (World Juniors) and Nicholas Deakin-Poot (upper body). Jeffrey Durocher made his Sea Dogs debut in the game after being traded to the Sea Dogs from Rimouski just prior to Christmas.
Zachary Bouthillier started in goal for Saint John allowing four goals on 27 shots.
Mathieu Desgagnés had the lone goal in the first period to put the Titan up 1-0 at 8:27.
The Titan doubled up in the second period on a goal from rookie Cole Huckins, his ninth of the season.
Saint John responded when Ben Badalamenti scored on the power play at 16:23 for his ninth of the year. Kale McCallum and Charlie DesRoches had the helpers.
Bathurst fired back with their own power play goal just second later when Anderson MacDonald beat Bouthillier for his 15th of the season. The Titan added another before the end of the period to make it 4-1 heading into the third.
Newly acquired Sea Dog Jeffrey Durocher scored his 10th of the year, and first as a Sea Dog, midway through the third to make it 4-2. Brady Burns and William Villeneuve had assists on the goal. Villeneuve has six points in his last three games.
Saint John fired 19 shots on Berubé in the final frame before being forced to pull Bouthillier, eventually giving up the empty net goal at 18:00 for a final score of 5-2.
