Wilson Tobs News Release

HAMPTON, V.A. - Kevin Berry did it all for the Wilson Tobs on Wednesday night as he fired six shutout innings and double home a pair of runs to break open a scoreless affair as the Tobs grounded the Peninsula Pilots 5-1 at War Memorial Stadium.

Wilson (16-28, 7-9) entered the seventh locked in a scoreless contest but finally woke up their bats scoring five runs on five hits. Berry began the scoring party with the two-run double. Cambric Moye also chipped in with a RBI double of his own which chased Anthony Campanella (L 1-2) from the contest but not before he was charged with the five runs.

Peninsula (18-25-1, 7-10) had scoring chances all night long against Berry (W, 3-0) but left runners in scoring position in five innings against the right-hander but was unable to score.

The Pilots avoided the shutout as Josh Eldridge homered to right field leading off the bottom of the eighth inning against Phillip Williams. However, Peninsula would get no closer as Wilson won their second straight, 5-1.

The Tobs make their return to Fleming Stadium on Thursday night at 7:05 when they host the Petersburg Generals.

The Wilson Tobs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both the players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 53 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and CY Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
