
Bergin's Late RBI Lifts Cats

HARLINGEN, Texas- The Fort Worth Cats used a ninth inning rally to sneak past the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 5-4 Wednesday night at Harlingen Field.
Leadoff batter Cameron Monger led off the first inning with a routine ground ball to third, where starting third basemen Kevin Lusson air mailed the throw over Goose Kallunki advancing Monger to second on the error.
Chris Ellison would give the Cats an early 1-0 lead scoring Monger on the RBI single. Ellison would come home to score the second run of the inning after Shelby Ford grounded into a double play.
Kallunki would lead off the inning with a walk, Kallunki would then advance to third on a double play hit by Lusson.
Starting catcher Johnny Bowden came to the plate with two outs, Bowden scored Kallunki on a base hit single tying the game at 2-2.
Starting pitcher Ray Hanson pitched into a bases loaded jam, waking consecutive batters Aljay Davis and Chris Christopoulos giving the Cats a 4-2 sixth inning lead.
The Wings would answer back in the bottom of the sixth scoring two runs, both runs scored on two outs in the frame.
Kallunki would score on an error at first trimming the lead to 4-3.
Roberto Ramirez came to the plate with two outs with bases loaded; Ramirez executed a hit and run scoring Bowden from third tying the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth.
Aljay Davis led off the ninth inning with a double to the left-center field wall, two outs later David Bergen got the green light swinging on a 3-0 fastball, Bergen scored Davis from second giving the Cats a 5-4 lead in the ninth.
Game two of the four game series is set for Thursday at Harlingen field. The Wings send AJ Smouse (4-1) to the mound. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
