San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- Right fielder Dan Evatt and designated hitter Kyle Nichols both hit two-run homers in the Colts' 4-2 victory over the McAllen Thunder Wednesday night at Foster Field.
Evatt's home run gave San Angelo a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning. The homer scored left fielder Braden Embry, who had reached base with a one-out single just prior to Evatt's at-bat. It was Evatt's third home run of the season.
Nichols doubled the Colts' lead with a two-run shot in the sixth. The homer was a line drive into left field, and it scored second baseman Jon Dziomba. Dziomba got on base with a single. Nichols leads the United League with eight home runs and 40 RBIs.
Thunder starter Trent Evings (3-3) was perfect through 4 1/3 innings. He unraveled in the fifth inning, however, and therefore suffered the loss. Evings allowed four runs on six hits in seven innings pitched.
Colts' starter Alex Bates (3-3) earned the win. He gave up two runs on six hits and recorded three strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings. Bates had seven shutout innings before allowing a pair of runs in the eighth.
Reliever Cephas Howard pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save of the year.
The win improves San Angelo to 18-15, while the loss drops McAllen to 13-20. This series continues with game two Thursday night.
It will be Thirsty Thursday/$1 Beer Night, sponsored by Miller Lite. Fans 21 and over can enjoy $1 draught beers and $2 bottles all night long, courtesy of Miller Lite. There will also be live music immediately following the game. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
