Fort Worth Cats News Release
Third baseman David Bergin lifted the Fort Worth Cats to a 5-4 win with a two-out single in the ninth inning of Wednesday night's game against the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings.
The Cats (21-12) never trailed in the game, but they gave up a two-run lead twice and eventually held on to take game one of the four-game series at Harlingen Field.
The Cats scored first with two runs in the first, but the WhiteWings (16-17) added a run in the second and another in the third to tie the game 2-2.
Fort Worth took the lead back in the sixth inning with two RBI walks with the bases loaded, but the lead would not last as the WhiteWings got to Cats' started Eric Sheridan for two runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
T.J. Bozeman and James Giulietti continued their dominant pitching out of the pen with 3.1 innings of one-hit relief. Giulietti earned the win after Bergin's go-ahead single in the top of the ninth.
Before the game the Cats made another roster move as they traded middle infielder Kori Melo to the Edinburg Roadrunners for catcher Chris Christopoulos.
Christopoulos went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in his debut with the team.
The Cats are in action again on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. in Harlingen.
After the series with Rio Grande Valley, the Cats return home to take on the Alexandria Aces in a four-game series beginning on June 30.
Tickets to all home games can be purchased by going to FWCats.com or by calling (817) 332-CATS.
