Providence Bruins News Release

Providence Bruins center Patrice Bergeron scored a goal on Sunday as Canada defeated the Czech Republic, 3-1 to advance to the Gold Medal game at the 2005 World Junior Championships in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Canada will play for the Gold on Tuesday against Russia, which took a 7-2 decision from the defending champions U.S.A. on Sunday. Team U.S.A. will face off with the Czech Republic for the Bronze Medal on Tuesday.

Bergeron leads the tournament in scoring with 4-7-11 totals in five games for the 5-0-0 Canadians. Bergeron, a 19-year-old native of Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec, already has won a Gold Medal with Canada at the 2004 World Championships last spring. He left the Bruins on December 13 to join Canada after notching 10-17-27 totals in 25 games with Providence. The point totals rank third on the team behind Andy Hilbert and Brad Boyes.

The Providence Bruins continue their six-game road swing on Friday, January 7 at 7:30 p.m., when they face off with the Springfield Falcons. All the action will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550 and on the team website, www.providencebruins.com.
