Worcester IceCats News Release
WORCESTER, MA â Blake Evans scored with 5:40 left in regulation to lead the Worcester IceCats past the Binghamton Senators 3-2 on New Year's night in Worcester.
Binghamton's Josh Langfeld made it 1-0, wristing home Denis Hamel's rebound at 9:16 of the first period. Worcester's Erkki Rajamaki evened things up at 11:28 for his third goal this season. He sent a long shot past Binghamton goalie Ray Emery right after crossing the blue line.
The âCats took the lead 1:19 into the second period as Aris Brimanis stayed with a bouncing puck that he eventually lifted over a sprawling Emery. Hamel scored his 22nd goal of the year on a feed from Chris Kelly at 10:20 to make it a 2-2 game. Hamel kept the shot low, beating Jason Bacashihua from the right circle.
Evans scored the winner without a stick in his hand. Jon DiSalvatore circled the Senators net from the left wing to the right wing, finally settling in the mid-slot. His backhander found its way through several bodies, then bounced off Evans' right leg past Emery.
Worcester (19-10-1-2) has won eight times in its last 11 games and sits two points behind third place Providence with 41 points. The team boarded the bus right after the game to travel to Hershey, Pennsylvania, where they'll face the Hershey Bears Sunday at 5:05 PM.
Worcester's next home game is Wednesday, January, 5th against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Faceoff at DCU Center is slated for 7:05 PM.
