Bendfeld Recalled to Oklahoma City, Jones Waived

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks, announced today that Edmonton has recalled defenseman Jordan Bendfeld to the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League from the Thunder.

Additionally, it was announced the Thunder has placed right winger Matt Jones on waivers.

Bendfeld is expected to be available for the Barons next game on Friday, Oct. 22 against the San Antonio Rampage at 5:05 p.m.

Bendfeld, 22, was selected in the seventh round (193rd overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by Edmonton and has skated in 70 career games for the Thunder over the last two seasons (2008-10), scoring 13 points (1g-12a) while posting 116 penalty minutes.

He made his Thunder season debut on Saturday against the Ontario Reign, the same day he was re-assigned from Oklahoma City.

A participant this preseason with Edmonton at the 2010 YoungStars Tournament in September, Bendfeld suited up in 52 regular season games last year for the Thunder, posting ten assists and 91 penalty minutes. He also skated in ten AHL games for the Springfield Falcons, collecting one assist and seven penalty minutes.

Jones, 24, suited up for the Thunder in one game during the regular season on Oct. 15 vs. Ontario. He was originally signed by Stockton as a free agent on Sept. 21, 2010.

A two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team& quot; by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the fifth consecutive season in 2009-10.
